Advice at exam results time

Around the country today people will be opening their exam results in anticipation, some will be celebrating, and some may not have done quite as well as they had hoped.

If you have opened your results today and haven’t got what you expected or needed then there is help and advice at hand, to make sure you make the best decisions possible for you.

Director of Connexions Education services Steve Murphy, outlines what to do if you haven’t got the results you were expecting. "If your results weren’t what you were hoping for, the first thing is don’t panic – there are usually other options available to you. If you only missed out by a couple of grades then you may still be ok, and if not then there will be other things that you could consider.

'What you need to do is discuss the situation with someone who knows the full picture of what is available and the person best placed to help you will be the Connexions Personal Adviser that you had in school. They will be available to talk to you either in school on results day or at the Connexions Centre on Union Street. So don’t suffer in silence…come and talk to people who are here to help."

"Of course, you may have done better than expected. If you get higher grades than expected you might want to reconsider your options. Perhaps you might want to go on to college or sixth form, or on to an Apprenticeship? Speak to Connexions and see what your options are."

The Connexions Centre is based on Union Street, and will be open from 9.00am until 5.00pm Monday to Friday, with a late night opening on a Thursday until 7.00pm.
