Career advice delivered to Asian Women in Oldham

back to news and projects

Highway to Opportunities visited the Asian Community on Wednesday 25th April, hosting a fun packed event for Asian Women in the Glodwick area.

Over 400 Asian Women attended, and were treated to a fun packed afternoon which included fashion and jewellery stalls, henna painting.

However the event also had a more serious side with an emphasis on engaging the Asian community, and delivering information on education, training and employment opportunities explains Les Crabb, outreach manager for H2O: ‘

Although it was a fun day the underlying purpose of the event was to engage Asian women, encourage them to speak to one of our qualified information, advice and guidance advisors who were on hand throughout the day to offer advice and support about any information they may want on education training or job opportunities’

Women were also given a talk from Bibi Ji, an influential role model in the Asian Community, who spoke to attendees about the importance of integrating in the wider community, and creating career opportunities outside the home

Highway to Opportunities offers free careers information to all residents of Oldham, and conducts outreach across the borough.
