Downing Street visit for Oldham teens

Two Oldham teens have been rewarded for their hard work in helping to gain £5 million funding for a youth zone in Oldham, by being invited to a reception celebrating youth talent at Number 10 Downing Street last week.

Afrah Qureshi age 18 and Razwana Mahmood also 18, were invited to attend the Talent & Enterprise Taskforce reception, which highlighted several youths across England for their talent and work done in the community.

The event was organised as part of the Prime Ministers commitment to the talent agenda and involved a live discussion with Diversity, winners of Britain's Got Talent 2009 and Delyth Morgan a Minister for Department of Children Schools and Families.

Afrah commented; ' We talked about what kind of experience we had gained from working on our projects, I was able to tell people about the youth zone we are working on in Oldham, and we also got to ask Diversity questions, before seeing them perform!'

'Gordon Brown was there, and I got to say a few words to him. It was great to be invited really interesting to see where things happen at Downing Street. It was also great for the profile of Oldham, people were really interested in the work we have done, and our proposals for the Youth Zone. '

The youth zone is due to be opened in 2011
