East Oldham Together

Sholver Youth Centre hosted the latest East Oldham District Youth Forum on 26th October. Young people from across the district came together to take part in a series of workshops aimed at increasing young people's awareness of staying safe on the streets this winter.

Participants had to work in teams to carry out a number of tasks in workshops that allowed them to put their learning into everyday practice. The workshops included personal safety , substance misuse, reducing Halloween and Bonfire night anti social behaviour, off road vehicle education and a wrecked car workshop around drink driving.   The day was supported by Integrated Youth Service, Positive Steps Oldham's Prevention Teams, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, Greenhill Community Sports Club and Oldham's Children and Youth Alliance.

Councillors Kay Knox, Linda Dawson and Jim McArdle along with the East Oldham Area Manager Simon Shuttleworth presented the young people with a certificate of attendance and participation for their positive attitudes in taking part in the day.

Ste Donnelly from the Integrated Youth Service said "It was a fantastic event and brilliant to see young people from throughout East Oldham coming together and having fun".  His comments were endorsed by East Oldham Locality Youth Forum's James Swales who said that "Today was the best event we've planned it has a really good experience. We wanted to develop young people's awareness of issues that affect East Oldham at this time of the year and planned this event to educate young people in a fun way".

The East Oldham Locality Youth Forum continues to meet on the first Tuesday in every month at Sholver Youth Centre 5-6pm . The group have already started to plan their next information sharing event for December.
