H2O pilot new employment programme

back to news and projects

Highway to Opportunities are pleased to announce that they have recently been invited to pilot employability skills training to Oldham residents, brought about following a new government initiative to help people get back to work.

The programme delivered through the Learndirect service provides encouragement and support to all adults looking to improve their literacy; language and numeracy skills in order to find employment and H2O’s friendly staff are ready to welcome newcomers to the programme.

The employability award is based on the skills, behaviours and attitudes that employers want to see in a new recruit and as such the programme is personalised to each learner to ensure a high success rate.

During the programme, learners will take part in various activities including: ·

  •  Activities to enhance their employability skills ·
  •  Opportunities to update their knowledge and understanding of the local job market
  • Motivation
  • Timekeeping
  • Team work
  • Personal appearance
  • C V production
  • Letter writing
  •  Application forms
  • Interview techniques

‘This programme is aimed at those thinking about returning to work, those thinking about a change of direction, or unemployed residents looking at getting back in to employment. It would also be suitable for individuals whose employability is affected by heath issues, or long term disability.’ Explains Learndirect Coordinator Louise Day

‘Core to the programme is helping learners understand exactly what employers are looking for.’

The learning will take place at Failsworth Childrens Centre, and should take approximately 40 hours to complete.’
