Health advice available through Connexions Oldham

back to news and projects

Positive Steps, who deliver children and young people’s services in Oldham, have today launched a new team of health advisors, in partnership with Oldham’s Primary Care Trust. The team is funded and employed by the PCT and will be based at Positive Steps on Union Street, working with Connexions, Oldham Youth Offending Service, and Oasis@connexions

The team is made up of Janette Butterworth, (Health Team Manager and Advanced Practitioner in training) Nicola Quinn and Ruqia Bibi (Assistant Practitioners) and Dawn Cummins (School Nurse)

‘The aim is to bring health services closer to young people in Oldham’ explains Janette Butterworth ‘we will be seeing clients who have been referred to us by any of the services delivered by Positive Steps, young people can also drop in and access us though the Connexions Centre- you don’t need an appointment just pop in, there will always be a member of the team based here as long as the centre is open’

‘We will be providing treatment for minor injuries and illnesses on a drop in basis, full health assessments, health care plans, therapeutic intervention, and minor ailment triage are also on offer.

’ ‘We are really pleased the team are here’ comments Steph Bolshaw, Connexions community manager, ‘this allows us to bring health services closer to young people in Oldham who may prefer to see someone other than their own GP, or don’t find it convenient to go to their own doctor- It marks a real step forward in the comprehensive range of services we are providing for young people.’

Young people can be referred through their key worker from Oasis@Connexions, The Youth Offending Service, or Connexions, alternatively they can simply drop into the centre and see one of the team. All treatment and consultations will be delivered in the treatment rooms in the Connexions centre.
