Positive Steps Oldham

Oh YOS

back to news and projects

Oldham Youth Offending Service has recently celebrated encouraging news - they are well on track to smash their targeted reduction of first time entrants into the criminal justice system.

“Regionally we were targeted with a reduction of 7.8%, however, in the last year we have beaten this with a decrease of 16.9%. This means that the number of young people under 18 committing criminal offences for the first time has dropped by nearly 17% from last year. This makes Oldham the third best performing local authority in the North West. This is excellent news for the Borough and early indicators show this trend is set to continue – especially with the roll out of our prevention strategy,” comments Youth Offending Service Manager, Penny Sharland.

“This news is testament to the hard work carried out by all those involved in the Youth Offending Service, particularly the Prevention team who have worked tirelessly developing a variety of programmes aimed at preventing offending and re-offending of young people.”
