Two Oldham Silver Surfers have shown that their ages don't have to be a barrier to getting acquainted with computers and using the internet.
Peter Jackson 77, and Ida Barrass 79 have both completed computer based courses delivered by local employment charity Highway to Opportunities after signing up to the Silver Surfers Day advertised last year.
'When I came to H20 last year it was just to find out a bit more about using computers.' Explains Peter, 'I did the MyGuide course which goes through the basics of using computers, and from there progressed to do my Literacy Levels 1 and 2. I am much more confident with using computers now, and have been e mailing friends, and getting into digital photography.'
'I have a grandchild who needs extra help with his homework and doing these courses has helped me to help him. I've recommended this to many of my friends, and am about to start a numeracy course.' I
da echoes this enjoyment, commenting 'I've always been interested in computers, and having done these courses I have been able to e mail my grandchildren at University and keep in touch with friends in Canada, I've even made the odd poster.'
Louise Day, H2O Manager commented 'These two prove you are never too old to learn new skills, some of the courses we offer are free, and best of all they are flexible so you can do them in your own time.'
Anyone interested in learning more about these courses should contact Highway to Opportunities on 0161 621 9200.
