Oldham collects first trophy of the football season

Positive Steps Oldham has once again collected a trophy for Oldham by winning the National Connexions 5-a-side football tournament for the second time in three years.

The tournament took place in Chester, on Saturday 11th August with over 20 men’s, and 12 women’s teams from all over the country competing for a place in the final.

PSO took two men’s teams, and one woman’s. The women’s team narrowly missed out on a final place losing to Manchester in the semi final, and the B team were knocked out in the qualifying stages.

The men’s A team won all six of their matches on the way to the final, scoring 10 goals, before beating Sheffield on penalties in the final, winning penalty taker, and team captain Anthony Sever acknowledged the achievement of the team commenting; ‘This is an incredible achievement winning the trophy for Oldham again, to beat teams from all over the country from much bigger organisations than ours, and go into the final unbeaten is testament to the team spirit we have built on and off the pitch.’
