Positive Activities Reduce Negative Behaviour Connexions Oldham hosted a PAYP (Positive Activities for Young People) Celebration event at Grange Arts Centre, Rochdale Road on Wednesday 5th September

Over 600 young people in Oldham have benefited from this programme which aims to engage young people in positive activities in order to reduce crime and anti social taking part in activities such as abseiling to drama.

The event was a chance young people who have benefited from this programme to celebrate their personal achievements from the project with providers and professionals in Oldham

‘PAYP funding means we can commission various projects in Oldham for young people to participate in over the summer months- it provides diversionary activities for young people, particularly those aged 13-19 at risk of social exclusion and community crime, across the school holidays.’ Explains Connexions Project Manager Kashif Ashraf,

‘The objectives are to: Reduce crime and anti social behaviour

Support children and young people back into education or training

Provide personal development opportunities around self discipline, respect, confidence and communication

Bring together young people from different backgrounds and ethnic communities to help break down prejudice and misunderstanding

‘this celebration has been important because the young people get a chance to say thank you for the opportunities they have been given, and the funders get to see exactly what their money goes on.’

PAYP is managed in Oldham by the Connexions Service, in Partnership with Youth Service, Groundwork, Kickstart, PCC Ends For further information please contact Kashif Ashraf PAYP Manager on 0161 621 9345
