Stepping Out With The Best
Positive Steps Oldham, an independent sector company providing an integrated range of support services to young people and adults in Oldham, has been named in the prestigious Sunday Times' Top 100 Best Small Companies. The organisation, which was recognised in 2004 for its Family Friendly Policies and is only the tenth in the North-West to achieve the Work Life Balance model, appears in the 'Best 100 Small Companies to Work For' category. Richard Caseby, Managing Editor of the Sunday Times, said that "These companies represent the very best business practice in companies with fewer than 250 employees. All of them are enlightened places to work with highly motivated employees and inspirational leaders".
Describing the award as a 'pleasant surprise', Alison Driver, the Director of Corporate Services, said: “Our aim has always been to be an exemplar employer and this award by the Sunday Times recognises that we have made progress. To be listed among the Best 100 in the country is a wonderful achievement for everyone who is part of the Positive Steps Oldham team.”
Positive Steps Oldham, which embraces Connexions, Oldham Youth Offending Service, Oasis@Connexions and Highway to Opportunities, received the award at a gala dinner at the Battersea Park Events Arena, London. Joe Fitzpatrick, the independent chairman, attended the dinner with Steve Murphy (the Director of Operational Services and Deputy Chief Executive), Steph Bolshaw (Operations Manager), and Kenneth Power (Human Resources Manager).
Positive Steps Oldham's mission is to provide an integrated range of advice, information, guidance and support services which enable all individuals, living, working or learning in the community of Oldham, to realise their full potential in work and life. This integrated approach recognises that young people and adults may face a number of interconnected barriers - family or relationship issues, health problems or offending behaviour. Partnership working is central to this approach.
In addition to the services directly delivered by Positive Steps Oldham, the organisation, which has 240 employees, also hosts the strategic management of a number of borough-wide initiatives such as Oldham Drugs and Alcohol Action Team and Oldham Teenage Pregnancy Partnership.
