A group of Oldham teachers have been awarded a National Certificate of Continuing Professional Development in Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE) enabling them to teach sexual health, realtionships and drugs education in their own schools.
A group of PSHE is an area of the curriculum that helps children and young people grow and develop as individuals, and as members of families and communities.
Positive Steps Director of Education Services, Steve Murphy presented the awards and commented, "It's great to see teachers enhancing their skills and knowledge, particularly in the area of PSHE Education which is undergoing in depth review at this time. The teaching of this subject supports key priorities for the borough such as reducing teenage pregnancies, reducing risk associated with drug misuse and the emotional wellbeing of children and young people, these teachers are doing a fantastic job"
Linda Devlin PSHE Lead said "These teachers have taken a year to complete this certificate; they have had to produce a portfolio of evidence demonstrating good practice in teaching this national curriculum subject. This group of teachers should be very proud of themselves, they have worked hard and their portfolios were of a very high standard.'
The teachers were supported by Oldham Primary Care Trust, Positive Steps Oldham
