Local employment charity Highway to Opportunities (H2O) hosted a high profile visitor last week when Dick Moore, Director of Technology for the 'University for Industry' (UFI) paid a visit to their learndirect centre at Brunswick House.
‘We were nominated as a centre for Dick to visit because of our outstanding learndirect performance.' explains Jayne Entwistle, Director of H2O.
'In the last twelve months we have signed up over 500 new learners, gained a new IT suite, and achieved outstanding results on our leaner satisfaction surveys. We can now offer a vast array of free courses which residents can complete at their own pace, either at home or in the centre, including numeracy, literacy and computer skills.'
'Dicks visit was all about getting out to a centre and seeing first hand how people are using the learndirect service, as well as understanding how centres' are offering the service to residents.'
'He spent some time with the learndirect team and learners, talking about their experiences of the service and courses in general, and was particularly impressed with the support offered by our tutors and the technology back up we have.'
When talking about his experience of Learndirect one learner commented 'the tutors don't teach you-they guide you.' Which captures the uniqueness of learndirect- learning at your own pace, with the guidance and support of fully qualified staff at all times.
