Young people prepare to get integrated

Young people from Hathershaw, Grange and Counthill schools embarking on a community cohesion project were invited to a celebration event at the Connexions centre on Friday 22nd February.

The presentation organised by the Horizons team at Positive Steps marked the end of a self improvement course which now allows young people to progress onto the community cohesion project.

Horizons programme manager Val Bergin comments, ‘Pupils were presented with certificates for completing a self improvement course, which involves self esteem, team building, and anger management modules.’

‘They will now progress onto the community cohesion project which aims to promote tolerance and understanding of the different faiths and cultures which exist in Oldham. This event is the fist time young people on the project have actually met each other but between now and April they’ll be working together doing a range of projects and activities.’

The project will end with a residential in April, and a DVD will also be made by the extended schools programme who are funding the project.
