Young people attending Oldham’s Youth Inclusion Projects (YIP) reached the end of their summer of activities by handing over 50 shoe boxes filled to the brim with toys, games and other gifts ready to be sent to deprived children in other countries.
Nigel Denby from The Rotary Club, who organise these shoe box appeals, received the shoe boxes from the young people and promised that the gifts will go to deserving children and young people across Central and Eastern Europe.
“It’s refreshing and rewarding to see young people so motivated to help other children, particularly those less fortunate than themselves” he comments.
YIP Project Co-ordinator Bernadette Stappleton adds; “The young people attending the YIP throughout the summer wanted to do something to help other children, and learn about other cultures. This project ticks both of those boxes perfectly”
“Our young people were really enthusiastic about this project from start to finish, collecting items to go in to decorating and packing the boxes- they did it all themselves and worked very hard on this. A lot of the boxes with toys in will be used as birthday presents in orphanages, homes and hospitals, it was a very rewarding project”
Oldham’s Youth Inclusion Project aims to prevent offending and re offending of young people under the age of 18 by engaging in a range of positive activities. The service is managed by Oldham Youth Offending Team, part of Positive Steps Oldham
