Adult Learners' Week in Oldham

Immediate and diary: 23 -28 May, 2005

You’re Never Too Old To Learn

Adults living and working in Oldham will have the chance to find out about opportunities for further learning within the Borough, during Adult Learners’ Week, which runs from Monday, 23 May, 2005 until Saturday, 28 May, 2005.

Oldham has traditionally had a low-pay, low-skilled economy and has a lower percentage of adults educated to GCSE, A-level and degree level than any other borough in Greater Manchester.

Adult Learners’ Week will provide people with the information they need to continue their education, regardless of their age or academic achievements.

Throughout Adult Learners’ Week there will be an information point outside Dixons at the Town Square Shopping Centre. This will be continuously staffed by professionals from all of the main providers of adult learning in Oldham. Visitors to the stand will be able to access information and advice on their learning opportunities and can also be referred for professional guidance from Highway to Opportunities, based at Brunswick Square on Union Street.

Some of the organisations playing a major role in Adult Learners’ Week include Highway to Opportunities, the Children’s Information Service, the Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Network, The Oldham College, Oldham 6th Form College and Lifelong Learning, as well as Job Centre Plus and Groundwork.
